I just love this app. Anything you need to help to self-learn music theory and/or extend teachings from music lessons, this app is it! My piano teacher and music director recommended this to me. Good looking out!

This is an exception tool for learning, teaching, & understanding music. Bravo! Easy, fun, addictive learning & empowering.
Ive been writing and playing music for many years but always with the aid of recording equipment. Its always been somewhat embarrassing that so many people Ive played with have almost another language in music theory that Ive not understood. My fingers understand a guitar fretboard very well but I have no idea of what the notes are nor do I know why a chord progression works. Im doing everything by ear. So far this app has been wonderful in helping me begin to get some understanding. Also, its not overdone with graphics, just a simple clear interface. Thank you for that!
What a great app for learning music theory! I take music lessons but we never have time to cover basics of theory so it always scared me a bit. Not anymore! I highly recommend this app!
Great for relearning after not practicing for a while.
I rarely rate apps but this one is so outstanding that I felt compelled to do so. If you aspire to learn and deeply internalize music theory then this is your tool. The app provides insightful and well presented music theory concepts. After each lesson you are given the option to test your knowledge. The practice exercises are awesome. My progress is exponential compared to other learning methods, such as books, video courses, etc. Want to learn every note on the guitar fingerboard? This app lets you practice using guitar and other instruments. Its fun to use as well. Seriously outstanding!!!
I actually really do like the app. I wish it would quiz you on intervals, though. For example, youd hear a maj 3rd being played and have to select the correct option amongst all possible intervals. Also, the word "descending" is often misspelled in the melodic minor section. It is always missing the "s".
I really just practice my sight-reading in bed now. Netflix and this. Hooked.
I used this to learn how to read notes. Its really excellent for that. Its also an app that respects your interest in music and doesnt distract with annoying gamification. I wish that it had rhythm practice or that the developers would make a rhythm app.
Dont waste ur money
This app makes music theory easy and I love it!
I wont waste your time making you read something long when you could be studying music theory. Buy this app it is well worth the $5.
Nice little tool to learn or refresh music theory whenever you have a moment. Like the testing option.
I started studying music theory almost a year ago from several different sources. Now admittedly I am not the sharpest peg on the tack board but this app got rid of all the confusion and missing pieces of the puzzle through simple to understand context and graphics. Thank you developers.
I think the best way to review this app is to paste a copy of the email I sent to the developers: "Greetings and thank you for producing a very usable app that is managing to do for me what no music teacher could - understand music theory! Ive been on the cusp of understanding before but never managed to break through. Am I there yet? I dont know but one thing is for certain. I FINALLY understand the circle of 4ths & 5ths! I was able to "get it" going forward but it never made sense going around the circle in the other direction and no one has been able to explain it to me until this app! Seems ridiculous but that is the reality of it. I need to understand both sides of something to get it. Im sure the fault lies with me but that has been my learning dilemma. So needless to say your app has had a profound effect on my understanding of theory. btw, Ive been a musician for over 30 years. So a heart felt "thank you" and kudos for an excellent app!" As you can read in my email this app has made it possible for me to go where no teacher could take me. It is very straight forward and very clear in its explanation. The theory sections have corresponding practice sessions so you can work the ideas into understanding. The language is concise with no waste or fluff. These folks know what they are doing! If you are interested in learning theory then you have come to the right place. It was for me, anyway!
So far so good. Curriculum is set up in a smooth order giving it a nice naturally educational flow. Since I paid $3.99, I would like to see a feature that enables users turn off sounds to allow simultaneous listening to music/podcasts while studying. Im sure Im not the only one who likes to multitask wherever possible so this feature would be helpful for a lot of users.
There is so much here to learn. If you are serious about learning music theory, and do not mind spending a lot of time going through all the reading and drills, you will want this app. It takes little time getting used to how it works and the explanations on how it works are very good. Its a good reference for music theory as well. If you are a musician, or want to be one, its an app that should come in handy and help you along the way. This app is not a game, its a tool for learning and reference. But it does provide scores, so in a sense it could be considered a game. The difference is that it is serious. I guess enough is said. I recommend this product for those who are serious and want to learn.
Before Musicopoulos, Id never spent a single penny on an app, and I gotta say: money well spent. If you are like me and really interested in learning this stuff on your own, than I strongly encourage you to purchase this app. Personally, I took a Coursera class on music theory that got really convoluted after awhile. Not only did I hardly learn anything, but I believed it was too hard for me to understand so I gave up. With this app, however, Im learning so much more than I ever did taking the online class. They explain the theory in easy-to-understand terms, and give you follow-up practice exercises in which you have to answer a certain number of them right before you can advance to the more challenging levels of which there are three for every theory (beg/interm/adv). They break the subject matter up into 5 parts, each with their own set of subcategories. Neat and tidy and certainly manageable. You go at your own pace, whenever you find a spare moment to yourself and need a dose of mental stimulation as I often do. Learning keeps your brain young and sharp, too--an added bonus, if youre into that sort of thing. All in all, Im thoroughly pleased, enough so that Ive written this here review. Hope this helps!
An excellent app to learn music theory. Very thorough, designed well. It has been more helpful than any other tool for learning music.
If you know absolutely nothing about music theory, this may well be helpful, but otherwise, caveat emptor (youve been warned). I purchased this app, in hopes of using it with some of my students -- wish I had my money back -- its good as far as it goes -- unfortunately, thats not very far. btw, a small side-note: I suspect the author speaks English as a second language, as there are a few odd language choices, but this is not a criticism, simply an observation. Second side-note: I recommend "The Nashville Number System," a book by Chas Williams -- very straightforward, good book from a practical and "applied" standpoint.
